Building a Calm Corner in Your Classroom
A small space and routine for self-regulation breaks.
Published
One student is buzzing; another is shut down. A calm corner gives both a path back without stopping the whole lesson.
A calm corner is not timeout—it is a regulated reset station students can request or be invited to use.
What to include
- Timer, cushion, feelings chart, headphones optional
- Laminated steps for belly breathing or five senses scan
- Clear return ritual
Teaching the routine
Model usage early in the year. Practice during low-stress weeks so the corner is familiar before high-stress weeks.
